At qualifying yesterday for the British GP, Daniel Ricciardo suffered a very premature end in Q1 with a turbo issue on his car.

Max Verstappen on the other hand, had a faultless session and qualified P5. However, he was 1.5 seconds off pole position and it was a rather lonely qualifying outing for the Dutchman.
“Clearly we’re lacking everywhere”, said Verstappen following his qualifying session. “We’re not fast enough. We just want a bit more stable balance, a bit more grip. We just can’t get on top of it.”
Ricciardo went into qualifying knowing that he had a 5 place grid penalty to take on race day due to a gearbox change. However, having stopped on track and qualified P20 and last due to his turbo issue, he shall start at the back regardless of the penalty.
“I think it was something to do with the turbo”, reflected Ricciardo. “That was the first noise I heard which didn’t sound healthy. I have no idea how an engine works still but I know what a turbo sounds like I think.
“That started making some really weird noises and I was losing power with that. Then from an engine safety mode point of view, everything switches off.”
“It could have happened tomorrow”, said Ricciardo looking on the bright side. “Maybe we’ll try and see if we can make the most of this penalty and fit on some new parts.”
