In a bid to create a new hybrid engine specification for 2021, F1 and the FIA have been working on plans to adjust the current formula.
An FIA Power Unit Working Group meeting was held earlier in March, which was attended by current F1 manufactures along with other manufacturers outside F1 such as Volkswagen.
A second meeting was held earlier this week which was attended by the likes of Aston Martin, Cosworth, Magnetti Marelli, and Zytek.
It is understood that the working group discussed their views on the evolution of F1 engine technology and the package to be created that shall be attractive to the current and any new potential manufactures wanting to delve into the world of Formula 1.
Sources say that the working group unanimously agreed that F1 has to remain the pinnacle of motorsport and for that reason, engine technology must only go forward, not backwards.
The FIA wants to hold individual consultations with participants of the meeting and interested parties to further discuss plans, and then come up with a joint proposal along with the commercial rights holder.
