Amidst all of the madness that unfolded at the 2017 Azerbaijan GP (Watch video review here : F1 2017 AZERBAIJAN GP : VETTEL v HAMILTON MADNESS – VIDEO RACE REVIEW), Fernando Alonso stayed out of trouble and scored first points of the season for McLaren Honda by finishing P9.

You’d think the team would be over the moon with a two point haul after enduring a dreadful start to the season putting them nowhere near the points, but McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier has said that while this result is certainly a morale boost, a 9th place finish is nothing to get excited about.
“The team did a great job and the drivers did very well to try to get the best out of it”, said Boullier talking after the race. “Fernando [Alonso] was obviously in a good position. He got excited and he drove very well. He was really, really on it.
“It was unfortunate that Stoffel [Vandoorne] had to pit for a flat spot, because he would have been 10th with one point.
“I’m not smiling, I’m not excited, because it’s not the reason why I’m racing, and especially not racing with McLaren. But mathematically, it’s good for the team, some result.”
“Any points you take is a good reward for the team”, he conceded however, “This is for me what matters today.”
