Same as last year, the car shall be powered by a 2.4 liter V6 along with the same 8MJ hybrid system that the new Porsche houses as well.

Off the back of last year’s devastating last minute heartbreak at La Sarthe, Toyota are absolutely desperate for victory.

“The whole team is motivated and determined for this season”, said Toyota team boss Toshio Sato, “We want to win, there is no doubt about that. But we know it will be an incredibly tough fight with Porsche.”

The FIA imposed aero changes for safety mean that the 2017 TS050 hybrid features a raised nose, and a taller front splitter.

Toyota are also set to run three cars for the new season, as opposed to Porsche’s two.

“Having a third car is an additional opportunity and we will do our best to again deliver a great spectacle for the fans at Le Mans”, said Sato, “Everything – the car, the team, and the drivers – has to work perfectly to achieve our goal of winning Le Mans.”

“We will see in June if we have done enough”, he said setting his targets.

Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway are joined by Formula E’s Jose Maria Lopez in Car #1. Sebastian Buemi, Anthony Davidson, and Kazuki Nakajima will continue to feature in Car #2. The new Car #3 shall be driven by Stephane Sarrazin, Nico Lapierre, and Yuji Kunimoto.

Both Toyota and Porsche are set to run their low-downforce spec for the two day Monza test beginning today.

Toyota drivers Jose Maria Lopez and Sebastian Buemi shall however not be taking part in the test as they are away on Formula E duty, with Lapierre and Kunimoto standing in for them.

The WEC 2017 season opener at the 6 hours of Silverstone on April 16 can’t come soon enough. What a cracker of a battle this will be!
